Paul David Serger, Jr "P.D./Pete"cherished, adoring husband of Rosemary Serger (nee Stokes), precious, perfect father of Kelly (Douglas) Lorenz and Jaimee Hiltbrand, treasured Grandpop of Benjamin, Eylie, Nicholas, and Natalie Lorenz, and Jonah Hiltbrand, dear brother of Robbie (Savio) Russo, Gerry (Paula) Serger, Chris Serger, Vicki (Chrisser) Kemper. Cherished brother-in-law of Kathy (David) Smoot, Jim (Kim) Stokes, IV, Jennifer (Robert) Howe, Annemarie (Michael) Johnston, and adored uncle to many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, peacefully departed our world at age 71 on Tuesday, the eighth of July, at 7:22pm and now rests peacefully in Jesus' arms.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Paul D. Serger, Sr., Patricia Adams Serger, James C. Stokes, III, and Marie Stokes, by brothers Scott Serger, Patrick Serger, Christopher Stokes, and infant siblings Joseph and Mary Gerarda.
Pete was also a brother to firefighters everywhere, as he considered them all his family after serving eleven years with the Cincinnati Fire Department and achieving the rank of lieutenant.
Born on the fifth of September, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Pete grew up as a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, and attended every opening day for over 50 years. P.D. wore many hats in life, but the one he loved the most was being a firefighter. When he wasn't "fighting fires and saving lives", he was an entrepreneur and contractor, starting and running several businesses including, Serger Construction, Serger Manor Beverage, and Tri-State Retractable Screens, to name a few. In 1997, Pete seriously injured his knee while making an ambulance run in the middle of the night. He was never fully able to recover from that injury andhad to retire from the job that he loved so much.
After retiring, Jesus called him to serve his fellow man once again and Pete joined Nativity of our Lord's chapter of St. Vincent de Paul, where he served as their treasurer for over 30 years.
Pete struggled for years with Multiple Sclerosis, but he never let it define him. He continued to work as long as he could. He continued to golf using a special cart provided by the Cincinnati golf courses and even at his worst moments he had a smile and a joke for those that were helping him. He was always upbeat and never complained.
A comedian at heart, he brought laughter to everyone with whom he came in contact. An inspiration to all who have been blessed by his presence, he is and ever shall be, loved deeply and will be greatly missed by many.
Please join us in honoring the life of Pete. Visitation: 1-5pm Sunday, July 13th, at Thomas Justin Funeral Home 7500 Montgomery Rd. Mass of Christian burial: 10am Monday, July 14th, at St. Saviour Parish 4136 Myrtle Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Nativity Conference or Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash.
