When we were kids growing up in 'The Hill', Paulalong with several otherswould come to my place on Congress Avenue and enjoy whatever my mother happened to be cooking. He always enjoyed my mother's food and she really liked him and understood his stuttering because as a child one of her closest friends was a stutterer. I'll never forget the time he said "Don't tell my Aunt Gertie I ate sausage". We all got a laugh outa that.
And of course there was the time he 'borrowed' my motorcycle but couldn't start it after many determined attempts.
Much simpler times as teenagers!
Then out of nowhere about two years ago, I get a call wishing me Merry Christmas and even though we hadn't been in touch in decades, I recognized his voice.
We 'caught up', commiserated over losses and promised we'd get together one summer in New Haven. Then life intervened.
Although we never met in New Haven, we last spoke when he was ailing.
R.I.P. old friend.

Dearest Paul,

You were your own person, you were unique. You were a special friend and will always be a part of my most joyful memories of my years in high school. I regret not somehow staying in touch but I'm grateful for what I had.

Hope our paths will cross again some...

much love,
Cookie

Paul was a great guy. Tough on the outside and on the football field in HS, but really a gentle, kind soul. He'll be missed by all who knew him.
