Deaconess Carrie Crawford was born in Dillon, South Carolina on November 19, 1916 to the late Randolph and Eliza Page. She attended Grammar and High School in South Carolina. As a child she attended Sunday School and at the early age of twelve was converted under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Rowes, pastor of the Bowling Green Methodist Church, Little Rock, South Carolina. She later joined the choir and worked with the youth of the church. In 1939, she moved to New York and joined the Salem Methodist Church. In 1940 she married Thomas Crawford, Sr. and moved to Paterson, NJ. To this union God blessed them with two sons, Thomas, Jr. and Jerry and one step-daughter, the late Hester Austin. In 1945 she became a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. Charles C. Currin. Carrie was a member of the Gospel Chorus, the Progressive Women and a member of the prayer band. Past president of the Golden Keys. Past president of the Deaconess Board and later received Emeritus status. She was a advisor to the Youth Choir. A past member of the fifty year club. In 1966 she received the Roberta Johnson Guild Award. She served as a den mother of Park No. 57 Club Scouts of America. She received a community service award from the Past Exalted Ruler Council No. 17 of the I.B.P.O.E. of World. She also received citations and awards from the City of Paterson and New Jersey General Assembly. Deaconess Carrie Crawford retired from the North Jersey Developmental Center where she worked for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents Randolph and Eliza Page, her husband Deacon Thomas Crawford, Sr. four sisters, Alice Margret, Anna Barbara, Rose Verga Page and Sarah Mc Lean. Two brothers Randolph, Jr. and James Allen Page. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Deacon Thomas Crawford, Jr. of Jersey City, NJ, Jerry Crawford of Paterson, NJ, a daughter-in-law Cynthia Crawford. Grandchildren: Tamara Crawford Hall, Stacey Johnson, Craig Morris, Jesse Hansley, Anthony Hansley, Tony hansley, Dexter Hansley, Dennis Ivey and Angela Carrecter. Great Grandchildren: Najir Kiaira, Skye, Shayla, Richard and Brandon. One sister Althea Cooper and a Brother-in-law Curtis Cooper of Gable, South Carolina. A sister-in-law Rev. Alice Crawford of Paterson, NJ. Best Friends: Alberta Johnson, from New York, Louise Roberts, Rock Hill, South Carolina. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
