Paul Stein Obituary

Paul Stein
Paul Stein died July 20, 2022, following a courageous, albeit shockingly short, battle with aggressive kidney cancer complicated by Covid-19.
Paul was born April 20, 1970, to Rick and Flo (Koehn) Stein. He was soon joined by a sister and twin brothers. He grew up on a farm in Harbor Beach and took his well-crafted work ethic to the city after he received a degree in computer science from Eastern Michigan University.
He spent his career helping clients in the insurance industry and later working as a Senior Software Support Specialist in the public sector (police/fire). There, he worked with both small and large agencies all over the United States and their territories. Wherever Paul went, he made friends and work was no exception. He was truly lucky to work with such a caring and talented group of people at a company he aspired to work at since college.
Paul and Cathy were married Memorial Day weekend in 2000 at Chandler Presbyterian Church. Seven years later, they received their greatest gift in their son Evan. Paul was previously active in his son's Cub Scouts, Science Olympiads, and Robotics Club. He was a life-long Tiger fan and really enjoyed a bad dad joke. If you can, please take a kid to a Detroit Tiger's game in his honor.
Paul also loved a good trip—big or small, by car or plane. No matter what the adventure, he was up for it! He relished travel whether the trip was to Pennsylvania, Oregon, or a big trip to Scotland, England, and Paris. He enjoyed a memorable overnight with his son's cub scout troop to the USS Ironsides and the Toledo Zoo as much as a trip to Traverse City Film Festival or a hunting trip with his brothers and his dad. One of Paul's favorite memories was a journey in and of itself. He tried desperately to keep up with Dr. and Mrs. Pol (his elementary school teacher) as they guided him in a hail of sheer dust and speed to the restaurant where Paul and Cathy took the Pols for lunch.
Paul was never the kind of guy to leave a Tigers baseball game early. Rain. Snow. Sleet. Hot. Losing miserably. He would stick it out until the bitter end. This cancer took him to first base on this journey, and just two days short of his first treatment he was in sight of second but just couldn't make it around the bases and was called out. He was ready for the fight and did not give up.
And boy did he have a lot to fight for.
Paul leaves behind his parents, Rick and Flo Stein; sister Michelle (Mike); brothers Jason (Jill) and Chad (Karen); his siblings' families; his God-daughter Morgan Gallagher; son Evan; wife Cathy; Father-in-law Lee Drummond; Margaret and Charlie Versteeg; DeLoris Notter; and far too many friends and coworkers he considered family to even begin to list. Paul was proceeded in death by his grandparents, George and Mildred (Pardek) Koehn and Edwin and Irene (O'Neil) Stein; Uncles Richard, Alvin, Charles, Carl, and George; and Aunt Judy and Aunt Alberta and his cousin Bill. He will also be missed by an unruly cat Lou.
Visitation will be at Ramsey Funeral Home on August 3, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and August 4, from 10:00 am – 12:00 p.m. Services will be held on August 4 at 12:00 p.m. Ramsey Funeral Home is located at 425 State St., Harbor Beach, MI 48411.
