Dear Jean and Family,
In my life there have been two non-family heroes, Dick Trigg and Tim Waggoner,
Pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church. Anyone who has known these Christian men
will agree, but not necessarily for the same reasons.
Dick and Jim Brown were two of the most quiet individuals I knew in my years with
them at Shawnee Mission North and West. When they spoke, I listened
attentively because their observations were on a variety of levels, chief of which
was their gentle way of speaking the truth without offending anyone yet bringing
a smile to the listeners who knew them well enough to appreciate how they could
make a criticism not harsh but humorous.
Family Values: much of his persona surely came from parents who named their children
Tom, Dick, and Harry. Dick and Jean continued the Trigg Tradition by rearing Tom
and Janice with the same rewarding philosophy. Tom was the reason I looked forward to with a smile
of anticipation. Unfortunately, I didn't know Janice as a student.
In conclusion, Dick was an outstanding teacher who inspired his students and knew how to work with
parents. I'm sure Jean remembers the classic example of Dick and the principal (either Murlin G. Welch
or Art Selves) meeting with two disgruntled parents who were vehement about the "B" their son had
earned instead of the "A" they felt he should have. Psychologist Dick solved the problem in such a way
that he became a hero to many other dedicated teachers.
Let's hope that education has many more teachers and individuals like Paul "Dick" Richards Trigg.

Mr. Trigg was one of my all time favorite teachers at SMW! I adored him and kind heart. He made trig so fun and always gave the best advice with a twist of humor! I feel blessed to have known him.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had Mr. Trigg while at SMW during '77. He helped explained geometry in a way that I understood and made me really like geometry. To this day, I remember this particular funny story and still tell it to others. He asked the class why are these two lines (while pronouncing like this): Une a que? We all looked him strangely, and he said it again the same way, Une a que? Then he wrote on the chalkboard, unique. It took us a bit to stop laughing, especially since he kept such a straight face the entire time.
Anyway, having him for only one semester, so many years ago definitely left an impression.
RIP Mr. Trigg!

I had Mr. Trigg at West back in '83/'84 and loved him. He was a great teacher, great humor and was a memorable part of my high school days. Great obituary, I enjoyed learning about how he lived before I knew him. Peace to your family.
