Paul Wayne Troyer, born September 9, 1941, in Kansas City, MO, was adopted at the age of three along with his brother Curtis by Menno M and Charity (Gingerich) Troyer. Curtis and Paul joined sisters Leabell and Marilyn on the family farm near Inman, KS.
Paul graduated from high school at Hesston Academy in 1959. He then attended Hesston College and Friends Bible College. Music was the heartbeat of his life. As a gifted pianist, Paul was performing professionally by 1963. In his early adult life, Paul lived in Los Angeles, CA where he worked as a keypunch operator and played piano in the entertainment industry.
Paul moved to LaJara, CO, in 1978 to be near his sister Leabell and her husband Wayne. He later moved to Denver. While in Colorado, he worked as a medical transcriptionist and played piano and organ for churches and community events. During this time, he also volunteered with a Prison Ministry in Limon, CO.
In the mid-1990s, Paul returned to Kansas to be near his sister Marilyn and her husband Peter. He became a resident of the Schowalter Villa campus in 2000, living independently at Hickory Homes for many years before receiving end of life care in Health Care.
For several years while living in Hesston, Water's Edge diners enjoyed live dinner music provided by Paul as he played on two keyboards – an organ and a piano! Along with playing piano and organ, Paul enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and sending birthday and Christmas cards to his beloved friends and family. Paul's family was very important to him – among his significant memories Paul noted being the Best Man in his brother Curt's wedding, singing "The Lord's Prayer" at his sister Leabell's wedding and playing organ for the wedding of his niece Kathy.
Paul was a member of West Liberty Mennonite Church where he was raised and then a member of United Church in LaJara, CO.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Leabell and Wayne Miller, nephews Philip Troyer and Nathan Hartman, and nephew-in-law Dennis Troyer. He is survived by his sister Marilyn (Peter) Hartman of Hesston, KS; brother Curtis (Kathy) Troyer of Middlebury, IN; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the West Liberty Cemetery, rural Inman. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23 at the Schowalter Villa Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Caring Fund or Union Rescue Mission in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
