Paul Richard Voegel

January 21, 1942 - July 28, 2025

Paul Richard Voegel, age 83, of Gays, IL, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, surrounded by family.

Funeral services honoring his life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Smyser Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Paul Richard was born on January 21, 1942, in Mattoon, IL, the son of John William Voegel and Thelma Fern (Sparks) Voegel. He married June Brandenburg-Elliott on February 10, 1990.

Survivors include his beloved wife, June Voegel; his children: Victoria Voegel, Sherrell Voegel, Paula Voegel, Bryan Elliott, Tammi Elliott, and Rick (Juli) Elliott; grandchildren: Olivia, Maia, Evan, Savannah, Sarah, Rio, Brigette, Hayley, Heather, and Lane; great-grandchildren: Bryan, Lillian June, Ranger, David, Declan, Caden, Colt, Sophie, Luke, and anxiously awaiting baby girl, Romi Tye; and brothers: Bill Voegel of Chambersburg, PA, Duane Voegel of Sullivan, IL, and Walter Voegel of Savoy, IL.

Paul Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Fern Voegel; father and mother-in-law: Leland and Irene Brandenburg; sister, Nancy Mawhinney; nephew, Billy Ray Voegel; and daughter-in-law, Cassi Elliott.

Paul Richard worked as a welding supervisor for WABCO in Peoria, Young Radiator in Mattoon, Blaw-Knox Service Equipment, and Mid-State Tank in Sullivan. Paul Richard was a country boy through and through. He loved the farm. He loved raising cattle and pigs. Being on the tractor mowing or working on the farm made his day. Paul Richard loved when friends and family dropped by-the door was always open. He loved his beloved companion "Whiskers", who he took for a ride in his truck every day. Sharing the farm with his nephew "Nick" and his family to raise animals for FFA and show at fairs was one of his greatest joys. Paul Richard will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
