Paul Weidner, 78, of Cincinnati, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully, on December 31st, 2023. He was the son of Bernie and Marie Weidner and was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Weidner and sister, Bernice (David).
Paul, an outgoing, loving husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife, Joy (Burnett); Children, Tracie Martin (Greg), P.J. Weidner (Audrey), Shannon Davis, & Emily Sandhas (Brian); Grandchildren, Trey, Grace, Jack & Hope Metzger, Morgan, Conner & Luke Martin, Luke & Nate Weidner, Olivia, Gabe, Eve & Graham Davis, Colton, Kellen & Cooper Sandhas.
Upon graduating from Elder High School in 1963, Paul attended the University of Cincinnati, where he played both baseball and basketball. After graduation, Paul asked Joy, his High School sweetheart, to marry him and they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Paul began his career as a High School teacher and coach at Elder and transitioned to a career in sales working primarily for Ohio Valley Supply Company.
He officiated countless High School basketball and football games before advancing to the Ohio Valley Conference, then the Mid-American Conference, and finally on to The National Football League. Paul was a Head Linesman (#87) in the N.F.L. for 23 years, then worked 12 more years as a Replay Official. He officiated Super Bowl XXX as a Head Linesman and Super Bowl LII as a Replay Official. Many people affectionately called him “Pauly Wally”, “Big Dad”, “Weez” or “Skiter”. He was known for telling wonderful stories and was adored by his family, friends and colleagues.
Paul and Joy spent the last 23 winters in Estero, Florida with many of their close friends in Pelican Sound Golf & River Club.
Paul lived a wonderful life filled with the love of family, the joy of friends, the bond of teammates and camaraderie of his officiating fraternity.
Paul was loved by so many people due to his infectious personality, sense of humor, and his big, tender heart! Paul was quite the gem and will be dearly missed by those who knew him best.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Visitation Church (3172 South Road Cincinnati, OH 45248) on Friday, January 12th, at 9:30 AM. We will also have an open house celebration of life from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Nathanael Greene Lodge (6394 Wesselman Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45248)
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Elder High School in Paul’s honor. (3900 Vincent Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45205)
