Deepest condolences for the family and anyone that knew him.
Mr. Wherry was my 5th grade teacher at South Wayne 1981-1982. I had a horrible home life and always looked forward to going to school and seeing his smiling face! He listened when I needed someone to talk to and always had the most kind and loving words. I have thought about him often throughout the years when I find myself in a tough situation, and he still helps guide me. He has made such a crucial impact on my life, I could never thank him enough for showing me what an angel can do in one's life.

Grandpa, you are the grandparent I judge all others by. Your love was so easily given, you never hid it or used it as currency. You were always ready to play and make us laugh. I hope you have found peace with grandma, wherever that is. I hope to live up to the version of myself you both always saw so easily in me. You are both terribly missed and forever loved. Love you always, Colleen

What a wonderful teacher, great soul and a very kind person. I attended South Wayne Elementary. He was my 6th grade teacher. Throughout my life I would often think about him. He was the Perfect Teacher. I will always remember him.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to his family.
