Wick, Paul Otto, of Flushing, age 88, passed away on October 5, 2024. He is the son of Otto Frederick Wick and Paulina Mohr Wick, born on February 2, 1936, in Marion, South Dakota. Paul was a graduate of Atchison High School and attended St. Benedict's College, also in Atchison, Kansas. He served in the United States Army as a linguist from 1956 to 1959.
After moving to Michigan in 1959, Paul worked while attending Flint Junior College. His 31-year career with General Motors Corporation began when he was hired by Buick Motor Division in 1962. He married Ann Blackford Wick on December 22, 1962.
Paul was a founding member of King of Glory Lutheran Church, in Flushing, and was a member of the Flushing Band and Orchestra Boosters. In addition, he supported his children and grandchildren by attending instrumental music concerts, ballet recitals, baseball, soccer, basketball, and footfall games, as well as marching band and drum corps competitions. In doing so, he and Ann traveled from the West Coast to the East Coast and as far south as Florida to various events.
Paul is survived by his wife Ann; children, Daniel Wick (Ann) of Howell, Michigan, David Wick (Kelley) of Chandler, Arizona, Julianne Geyser (Michael) of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Aaron Wick, Katherine Prokopchuk (Michael), Paul Gentine (Brittany), Lauren Hagman, Caleb Wick, Elizabeth Gentine (Keith Himmelberger), Steven Wick (Michaela), Vanessa Geyser, Justin Wick and Aaron Hagman; and great-grandchildren, Easton and Logan Wick, and Avery Himmelberger.
Additional survivors include his brothers, Otto Wick (Roxann Scheid), and Carl Wick (Phyllis); sisters, Paulette Helm (Dean) and Roxann Henson (Jerry).
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, Otto and Paulina Wick; two infant sisters, Marion and Ruth Wick; two brothers, Frederick and Nathan Wick; and his in-laws, Richard and Marjorie Blackford.
Paul was an avid collector and enjoyed sharing stories of his pursuits with his grandchildren. He particularly enjoyed road trips and visited 49 of the 50 states United States and many National Parks and Monuments. His favorite styles of music were Dixieland and gospel. He watched many hours of televised sporting events with Ann, their children, and grandchildren. The Kansas Jayhawks were near and dear to his heart. "Rock, chalk, Jayhawks!"
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at King of Glory Lutheran Church, located at 6012 East River Road, Flushing, Michigan 48433.
