I met Polly 40 years ago when she came to work at an oil company where I was working. She said she was earning spending money for her boys in college. We soon became friends and at lunch she would always find something fun and interesting to do - be it Jazz and Gumbo in the basement of a hotel, art and pottery exhibits, a tattoo convention, etc. I soon nicknamed her my social secretary cause she always had something to do. At night she invited me to join a group of friends who attended inventive productions at the Germinal Stage Theater. After the play we would go out for coffee and discussion. She was still friends with some of the women in this group. Polly Introduced me to June Hurst and the first of many garden breakfast parties for candidates. At the first one I was looking for a house and there was one right across the street from the Hursts and not far from Polly who now was more family than friend. How fun and helpful it was to meet candidates up close and personal, pass out literature, go to District breakfasts where issues were discussed. I had back surgery and was sent home too soon to take care of a toddler. I couldn't bend over to put anything in the oven and didn't have a microwave. Polly who was into macrobiotics brought me what she called her leftovers until I got back on my feet. I knew they weren't leftovers-just Polly being Polly. We would go to the mountains and stop at favorite restaurants and shops. One time we went to Rifle and I got to meet her Dad. He was afraid that I had picked too many cat of nine tails. Well I needed weeds to fill the pottery I had bought with Polly. I envied Polly who always dressed in colorful youthful clothes. I vowed when I got older I would do the same. Nobody could do that like Polly who also collected hats and fun jewelry. I hope that Polly is with Chuck and all the family and friends she treasured in life. Our loss is Heaven's Blessing.
