Pauline Dungee Obituary

Ms. Pauline Gilbert Dungee, 90, departed this life on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Concordia retirement community in Bridgeville. She was born on March 29, 1934, in Marianna, as the seventh, and last surviving, child of Arthur L. and Emma Issac Gilbert. Pauline attended Marianna Boro Elementary and West Bethlehem High School. She married Eugene Alfred Dungee, and from this union, they had three children. Despite their marriage ending, Pauline's unwavering devotion to her children was evident throughout her life. Her professional career included five years of service at Mayview State Hospital in Bridgeville, and an impressive 38 years at Western Center in Canonsburg. Pauline was also a former member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. While at Concordia, Pauline also had a wonderful connection with her chaplain, Reverend Devon Jeffries from Commonwealth Hospice. Known for her exceptional culinary skills, Pauline was especially renowned for her wedding cakes, coffee cakes, cookies and candy. She always gifted her wedding cakes to brides and was known for maintaining an immaculate home. Her passion for cooking and her strong work ethic were passed down to her three children, whom she supported tirelessly, sometimes working three jobs simultaneously to make ends meet. Pauline is survived by her children: Crystal Lynn Lee (Wayne Lee, Sr.) of Silver Spring, Md., Eugene Louis Dungee (the late Kathleen Harris Dungee) of Washington and Melodie Elaine McClendon (the late Ernest McClendon) of Canonsburg. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Carlton Dungee, Chelse Dungee, Shayleen Dungee, Hannah McClendon, Erin Lee and Faith McClendon; and a grandson of love, Wayne Lee, Jr. (Alicia). Wayne Jr's three children are: Wayne Lee III, Ava Lee and Adrian Lee. Pauline was predeceased by four brothers: Willie, Johnny, Freddy and Clarence Gilbert; and five sisters: Lucille, Marie, Doris and Dolores Gilbert and Flossie Gilbert Liggons. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts of those who knew and loved her. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Concordia of Bridgeville, formerly Country Meadows and Commonwealth Hospice for their compassionate care. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner / Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 5. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
