Pearl J. Hoffman

1936 - 2025

Pearl J. Schoon Hoffman, 88, Wheatfield, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on Nov. 1, 1936, in South Holland, Ill., Pearl was the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Ooms) Lagestee. She graduated from Illiana Christian High School in 1954 and married Robert Schoon that same year. They shared many years together before his passing in 2005. In 2009, she found love again and married Albert Hoffman, who survives her.

A devoted homemaker, Pearl formerly attended American Reformed Church, where she actively participated in the Ladies Circle. Committed to her faith, she was a current parishioner at First Church. Pearl found joy in gardening, flowers, cooking, and bowling, but above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

Pearl is survived by her children, Calvin Schoon, Cathy (John) Abbring, and Curtis (April) Schoon; her grandchildren, Joy Kaluf, Katie Lapsley, Jennifer Schoon, Steve Schoon, Jacob Schoon, and Shelby Schoon; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Jacque Zanstra and Judy (Clarence) DeHaan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Schoon; daughter, Cynthia Schoon; and her brother, Edward Lagestee.

Family and friends are invited to gather at First Church in Wheatfield on Friday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor John Hill.

Interment will take place at Holland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mobility Ministries in Wheatfield.
