Mrs. Pearl Mitchell

MITCHELL, Mrs. Pearl - Age 95, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Hendrick's House. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, March 4, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 11:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Mitchell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Pearl Mitchell was born August 13th, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama, to the union of Joe and Ethel (Tarrant) O'Dell. Pearl was the sixth child of eleven children. Pearl received her formal education form the Birmingham, Alabama School System in Jefferson County. As a young lady, she met and later married the true love of her life, Paul Mitchell (who preceded her in death on June 9th, 2002). They shared 55 wonderful years committed to one another. Together, they raised an adoring and loving son, the late George Ralph Mitchell. In pursuit of new opportunities, the Mitchell's moved and called Flint, Michigan home. Pearl adapted well to her new environment. She accepted Christ in her life and became a long standing, faithful member of Fairhaven Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Pearl was an active member until her declining health became an obstacle. Pearl had a great passion for cooking, especially vegetarian meals that were surprisingly delicious. She had an eye for fashion and was known to be a stylish dresser. With a fearless confidence, she would often go to the post office at night to retrieve mail for her post office box. Unwavering, she always felt protected. Pearl's personality was so engaging. She loved to talk to people. Her favorite places to frequent were Kmart and Meijer where she could be found conversing with complete strangers. Pearl Mitchell lived her life enjoying and serving others! On February 21, 2023, Pearl Mitchell was peaceably called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory: devoted siblings, George O'Dell Sr. and Nora O'Dell, both of Flint; sister-in-law, Susan Green of Chicago, IL; cousins-in-law, Robert and Fannie Oliver of Birmingham, AL and centenarian Mary Kyler of New Brighton, PA; 5 nieces, Glenda Lowe of Flat Rock, MI, Beverly Hill, Barbara (Herman) Byrd, Myrisha (Freddie) Wilkins and Teresa Foster, all of Flint; 3 nephews, George (Karen) O'Dell Jr. of Flint, Robert O'Dell Jr. and Michael O'Dell; many other relative and friends including special longtime friend, Mary Young of Flint.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mitchell; sons, George Ralph Mitchell; parents, Joe and Ethel (Tarrant) O'Dell; siblings, Benjamin O'Dell, (triplets) Johnnie O'Dell, Walter O'Dell, David O'Dell Sr., Ethel Mae Avery, (twins) Florence O'Dell and Lawrence O'Dell; and other extended family members.
