Omer Lyle "Peck" Miller

After a life well and fully lived, Peck Miller, beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend peacefully slipped away from this world on December 8th, 2025, surrounded by his family in Layton, Utah.

Born Omer Lyle Miller in Dresden, Kansas on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 1932, to John Onley Miller and Pearl Broyles Miller, he was quickly given the nickname Peck and it stayed with him his entire life.

Raised near his grandparent’s farm in Kansas, hard work and a love for all things with wheels was instilled in Peck at an early age. He was driving a tractor and the farm truck as early as 7 years old when his feet could reach the pedals. This passion for driving was lifelong and led him into the field of truck driving. He loved being on the open road and took up long haul trucking with Ringsby Trucking and later as a car hauler with Commercial Carriers. His work and travels saw him drive in all 50 states, Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands.

He loved his country and served in the Marine Corp for 8 years, enlisting in 1951 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Hawaii. His love for travel was sparked by his time in Hawaii. He never got over the awe that he could be in warm weather while there was 2 feet of snow on the ground at home.

He left Kansas upon his return and made his home in Colorado. In 1978, on a work trip to Utah, he met a vivacious, tall red headed beauty named Sandy Jackman Riser. Their chemistry was instant. They married in 1980 and he welcomed her and her two children, Wade and Teri, into his life. After a short stay in Springville, Utah, they made their home together in Longmont, Colorado. He joined the LDS Church there and deepened his love for Jesus and his Heavenly Parents. He was a devoted member of the LDS church for the remainder of his life. Sadly, Sandy passed away in 1985.

His good fortune in love seemed to happen in Utah. While driving through Fillmore, Utah, he met Janice Cooper Duncan, and their beautiful love story began. Janice noticed him for years as he regularly stopped at a truck stop in Fillmore, Utah where she worked. After a period of long-distance dating, they were married September 6th, 1986. For 37 years they were devoted companions and were sealed in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. As before, he warmly welcomed Janice’s grown children, Brad, Jill, Jody, Janet, and Jamie with open arms. After retiring, they moved from Longmont, Colorado to St. George, Utah where, together, they created a haven for our entire family to gather. We all loved being at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Peck was an epic storyteller who loved sporting Hawaiian shirts and going on adventures. He loved warm weather, rock hounding, clowns, 4 wheeling, 18 wheelers, music, his “board meetings” with his friends at the coffee shop, dinners with his sweetheart and family, and the color red.

He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t met yet. His love, charisma, and gratitude came in great proportion! Every single day he talked about how grateful he was. He said he didn’t have everything he ever wanted, but he always had everything he ever needed, which is true abundance, and he was grateful.

His love, presence, and gratitude are his greatest gifts and legacy. He made every single person he met feel seen and heard. We all feel we are his favorite. We are loved. We are special. He loves us completely. He loves his kids and grandkids. There’s no greater gift to receive. Thank you for your love dear Peck, we love and cherish you dearly.

We are grateful for God’s Plan of Happiness which enables us to be together again after this life. 

Peck was preceded in death by his father John Onley Miller, his mother Pearl Broyles Jay, stepfather Merle Jay, sister Lois Cook, sister Merlene Davis, wife Sandra Jackman Miller, beloved sweetheart and wife Janice Cooper Miller, stepson Brad Duncan, sons-in-law Karl Anderson, Wayne Montgomery, and Mark Eaton.

Peck is survived by his brother Dennis Jay (Susan), stepson Wade Riser (Evelyn), stepdaughter Teri Eaton, stepdaughter Jill Robison, stepdaughter Jody Anderson, stepdaughter Janet Benthin (Mike), stepdaughter Jamie Spangle (Chris), stepdaughter-in-law, Tanya Duncan, and numerous beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday December 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah 84041. Friends may visit family prior to services from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment at Fillmore Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
