YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated at 10 a.m. at Sta. Rosa De Lima Church for Pedro Colon Arroyo, 89, who died Thursday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Pedro was born May 20, 1919 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, the son of Clemente and Sophia Arroyo Colon. Pedro served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Military Police Officer. He later worked at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. as a hot strip gauger for more than 30 years. Also during that time, he had served on the YoungstownPolice Department for 14 years. He retired in 1977. He was a member of St. Rosa De Lima Church, its Cursillo Movement and was a founding father and president of the Sons Los Consejeros of Sta. Rosa De Lima, and the Sons of Borinquen. He also served as Vice Commander of the AMVETS Post No. 59, and was a life member of the National AMVETS. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Angelica Irizarry, whom he married in 1952. He is survived by a daughter, Delcina Colon of Chicago; two sons; Pedro Colon Jr., with whom he made his home, and Edwin Colon of Illinois; a sister, Haydee Perez of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; and three grand-daughters, Irene, Diana and Dellila. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where a prayer service will be recited at 7 p.m..
