Margaret "Peg" Palmiter, 88, of
Jasper, NY, now rests in the place the Lord has prepared for her. A woman of deep kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit, Peg touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her steadfast faith, and the loving devotion with which she cared for her family, her home, and her community. In every part of her life, she reflected compassion, grace, and a sincere commitment to others.
Peg graduated from Jasper Central School in 1955 and from Rochester Business Institute in 1957. On May 17, 1958, she married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Palmiter, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service to their community. Peg was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from caring for those she loved and creating a home where all felt welcome.
While raising her family and serving as a full-time homemaker, Peg also shared her gifts in the workplace as a secretary and later as a valued business partner in Brabant Well Drilling, which she operated alongside her husband from 1972 until their retirement. In both her home and her work, she brought the same steady dedication, thoughtfulness, and quiet competence that defined her life.
Peg's love for Jasper was evident in the many ways she gave of herself to the community. She served as a trustee and employee of the Jasper Free Library and was an active member of the United Church of Jasper, where she served as secretary and faithfully prepared the weekly bulletins for many years. Her energy and community spirit also helped sustain cherished local traditions, including Old Home Day and the bicycle races that drew visitors from near and far.
She brought joy to others through music, playing piano duets and singing with her sisters, and later performing guitar as part of "Jasper's Nashville Now" at the 1988 Old Home Day celebration and at the NYS Fair in Syracuse. Whether through music, service, or simple hospitality, Peg had a special way of making people feel connected and cared for.
She also found great happiness in sewing, gardening, and making her home beautiful. Her quilts and flowers, like her life, brought warmth, color, and comfort to those around her. She had a gift for creating beauty in ordinary things and for making others feel at ease in her presence.
Peg is pre-deceased by her husband Bob Palmiter, parents Jim and Alta Brabant, sister Jackie Hill, son-in-law Alan Nosar and granddaughter Jessica Nosar.
Peg is survived by her children, Jim (Sheila) Palmiter of
