Peggy Ann Brown, a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cherished friend, and servant of God, passed away at the age of 81 on March 29, 2025. Peggy was a shining light of love, service, and compassion. Peggy was a dedicated worker, spending many years at Hardwick Clothes. After her retirement, she devoted nine years to caring for her mother, providing extraordinary love and care during those final years. Family meant everything to Peggy: she poured her heart into creating countless cherished memories. Travel brought her joy, and she treasured adventures with her loved ones. Her most recent trip to Disney was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and love for making memories. Peggy loved to cook and share good meals with her family. Peggy's life was a testament to unconditional love, selfless service, and unshakeable faith.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Hubert and Josephine Phillips, and her sister, Wanda (Jim) Haney.
She leaves behind four children: James (Sharon) Brown, Susan (Mike) Abernathy, Karen (Ricky) Goins, and Donna (Richard) Thompson, all of whom were blessed by her unwavering love and guidance. Peggy was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Tanner (Emily), Brandon (Allie) and Jake Thompson, Kelli (Shane) Dale, Katie (Clayton) Steeles, Abby (Lee) Cox, Michelle Abernathy, Eric Goins, and Erica Silver. Her legacy continues through her nine great grandchildren, who will deeply feel her absence. Cutter, Lorelai, Samuel, Hillary, Kamp, Reese, Liam, Hunter, Tyson, and Chloe adored Mamaw Peggy. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her grandson, Baby Thompson, whom she was excited to meet. Peggy is also survived by her brother Larry (Charlotte) Phillips, with whom she shared a special bond. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; all of whom speak of her kindness and the tremendous impact she had on their lives.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Union Grove Church of Christ on Bates Pike. A service celebrating her life will follow at 4:00 PM with Lee Cox officiating.
The interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with Tanner Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Jake Thompson, Shane Dale, Clayton Steeles and Hunter Mashburn serving as pallbearers.
