Peggy Burry Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy A. Burry, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Hazel Park, Michigan, Peggy was born November 23, 1940. She graduated from Hazel Park High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. Peggy's life was a journey filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories.
Peggy and Don's story began on February 5, 1961, when she read her horoscope, predicting that she would meet a new romantic interest that day. Just two hours later, fate intervened as Donald, the love of her life, sat down next to her at the Alpine Ski Resort. Their love blossomed, leading to their marriage on March 11, 1961, and the joyful arrival of their first daughter, Renee, in January 1962. Eight years later, their family grew with the birth of their second daughter, Julie, in August 1969.
Peggy was employed by General Motors, where she worked until her marriage. Afterward, she became an active member of her community, volunteering with the PTA and supporting the Waterford Hills Road Racing Club, where Don pursued his passion for road racing. Her spirit of service and commitment to family and friends was evident in everything she did.
Peggy cherished the camaraderie of her monthly card club, where she maintained lifelong friendships that began in her childhood. These connections brought her immense joy and laughter throughout her life and were still going strong until her passing.
Two of Peggy's greatest joys were her grandsons, Michael and Nicholas, who lovingly called her "Neena." She delighted in babysitting them and attending their various activities, always cheering them on with pride and love. Their happiness was her happiness, and they were truly the apples of her eye.
Peggy created countless cherished memories during family trips to Marco Island and Captiva, Florida, where she enjoyed watching her beloved grandsons swim, enjoy the sun and buying them treats and trinkets, she was the ultimate "Spoiler" grandma.
She and Don also shared many adventures with close friends, traveling to Las Vegas, Tennessee, and Mackinaw Island, creating bonds that would last a lifetime.
Entertaining was a significant part of Peggy's life; she loved hosting Fourth of July parties around the pool, bringing family and friends together to celebrate and create lasting memories. Her warmth and hospitality made every gathering special.
A passionate follower of British history and the royal family, Peggy had a keen interest in their stories and traditions. Peggy and Don had the trip of a lifetime when they traveled to London, England for their 25th wedding anniversary.
Additionally, she was an avid Coca-Cola collector. She transformed her basement into a museum dedicated to her beloved memorabilia, showcasing her vibrant personality and zest for life.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband, Donald, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. She leaves behind her daughters, Renee (Rick) and Julie, her grandsons, Michael (Jordan) and Nicholas (Jackie), her brother Robert, and nieces Jackie and Elizabeth. She is also survived by many family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
