Peggy Phillips Cochran, age 90, of Milton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. She was born at home in the community of Hopewell, GA on January 31, 1934, to Ruth Henderson Phillips and Henry Edward Phillips. Peggy was the oldest and only daughter of two children.
Because of her decision to follow Christ in the summer of 1946, Peggy's faith became sight on Christmas Eve evening when she met Jesus and joined her beloved husband, Joel, her parents, and her brother, Jim. Active involvement and faithfulness to the church was always a main part of her life. In later years, she was a member at First Baptist Woodstock, attending Sunday School, serving in the church's thrift shop, and attending to shut-ins and widows. Through her service she formed many close friendships.
Peggy was a devoted wife and mother. After Joel retired, they enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family. Their favorite destination was St. George Island. Peggy was the family's biggest cheerleader, always supporting her children and grandchildren in sports and activities. She made it a point to attend all their events.
Her family and friends will deeply miss Peggy. She had the sweetest smile and never met a stranger. Until the end, she remained kind, loving, and grateful, always expressing her thanks to those who cared for her.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Karen Cochran; her son, William (Phil) Cochran; and her daughter and son-in-law, Jana (Cochran) and Adam Biesecker. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Kelly Cochran Walker (Ben), Brett Cochran (Amanda), Zachary Biesecker, Corrie Biesecker Riggs (Zachary), and Benjamin Biesecker. Additionally, she is survived by six great-grandchildren: Gracie Walker, MaKayla and Mason Cochran, Everly, August, and Eleanor Riggs.
A graveside ceremony will be held on January 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Georgia National Cemetery. Those wanting to atttend the service will need to be at the cemetery no later than 10:45 to join the procession for the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, https://diabetes.org/ways-to-contribute. At six years old, Joey was diagnosed with diabetes. Peggy cared for him diligently and lovingly, and he credits her care to his good health for so many years.
