Margaret "Peggy" Hayes passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.
The second of six children born to Colonel John W. and Josephine “Jo" Jacobs, Peggy entered the world in Merced, California, and spent her childhood on various Air Force bases in Europe and the United States. She is preceded in death by her sister, Leslie, and is survived by her siblings Joann, Melanie, JJ, and Audrey, who will always cherish the memories they had growing up together.
Peggy is also survived by her daughter, Kelly; her sons and daughters-in-law Dallas and Ashley, and Alex and Amalie; and her beloved grandchildren, Carson and Dayton.
Although she spent the past 23 years in Orlando, Peggy always considered Shepherd, Michigan “home.” It was there that her Catholic faith and spiritual journey were deepened and sustained through the love and fellowship of her closest lifelong friends.
Peggy’s professional life reflected her compassion and commitment to helping others. She served in the administration of Shepherd Public Schools before later pursuing a career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Orlando.
She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, encouragement, and unwavering support of those she loved.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Peggy’s life will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, Florida, on November 17, 2025 at 1100 am. In keeping with her joyful spirit, Peggy requested no black or dark attire—please join in celebrating her life with bright colors and happy hearts.
