Peggy Kalahar Obituary
Peggy L Kalahar
September 2, 1946 - February 8, 2025
Peggy Louise Kalahar (78), also known affectionately as Mom and Grandma, passed away on Saturday, February 8th, in her own home and on her own terms, surrounded by her friends and family. Peggy's fight with cancer was quick once it was found, even though we now know she struggled for months unknowingly.
Peggy was born on September 2, 1946, to Virgil Gordon and Rozelle (Krohn) Petri in Portland, WA. She joined her older sister, Rita, and was followed by a younger brother, Stuart. Peggy grew up in Seattle, Spokane, and Quincy, and ultimately graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1964 and attended Wenatchee Valley College before meeting the love of her life, John.
Peggy married John Kalahar on July 19, 1969 in Wenatchee, WA.
One of Peggy's proudest achievements was supporting John while he went back to college at Central Washington University to earn his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree in Sociology. John then spent the better part of his adult life teaching at Wenatchee Valley College. She was also very proud of her son, Kory, his beautiful family, and their collective accomplishments.
Grandma Peggy loved her grandchildren: Emma (27) and her husband, Kris, Mackenzie (25), and her husband Anthony, and Carson (22). Her favorite times and memories with her family and grandchildren have been at her brother and sister-in-laws cabin at Whidbey Island and family trips to Playa Del Carmen in 2014 and Kauai in 2018. Peggy also deeply loved her Daughter-In-Law, Haylee whom she referred to as her D.I.L. Her favorite though, by far, was her little Yorkshire Terrier, Buddy, who spent the last four years by her side, on her lap, and in her face.
There were many things in life that Peggy enjoyed thoroughly. She enjoyed having her weekly Monday coffee with some of her long-time friends. Occasionally, her life-long friends Liz and Olivia would pick her to play card games, and she treasured that time with them. She also loved to go on an outings to grab an Arby's French dip with Swiss and her favorite Aut-to Mocha drink. In her new home at Bonaventure, she enjoyed the family-style meals chatting with her new friends, BINGO, and happy hour.
Another thing Grandma Peggy enjoyed was the family tradition of kicking off the Christmas holiday with her on December 23rd. The evening would begin with a family dinner at La Fuente. We would then open gifts together one at a time as everyone watched with excitement. Stockings would then be passed out and everyone would dig into the goodies inside. The Festive evening was concluded by scratching lottery tickets. Sadly, she never hit it big. These were some of our favorite times together.
In the end, people who knew or just recently met Peggy, knew her as fun, sassy, and quick-witted. Peggy was a great story-teller and one might hear the same story again if they listen long enough. Most anything could remind her of a story: an accident, a pocket knife, a honeymoon. She had a social spirit, and she loved and looked forward to seeing people, visiting people, and being around during social gatherings. Moving to Bonaventure was an excellent answer for her during the last eight months of her life. Peggy lived a long and fruitful life where she loved and was loved.
