Peggy Madison Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 2, 2025.
The sweetest, kindest soul and heart of our family, Peggy S. Madison, 84 of Spotsylvania, VA, passed away at home, her favorite place to be on November 27, 2025. She was the best wife and cherished mother, sister, aunt and Mema to her grandkids as well as to countless others who also affectionately called her Mema through the years. She entered into the kingdom of eternal peace, greeted by loved ones who have been patiently waiting for the glorious day they would be reunited.

One of 8 children, Peggy was born to Howard and Evelyn Greene in Fredericksburg, VA. From an early age, she cooked and cared for her family even after starting a family of her own. Peggy cooked with "love", her secret ingredient. Weekend morning visits at "Mema's House" was a common occurrence. Since feeding everyone was one of her favorite things to do, Thanksgiving was prepped and ready, all but the Turkey for anyone who wanted to drop in for a bite. Feeding us made her happy! She loved her flowers, birds, gardening, playing horseshoes, and canning, but above all else, she loved her family the most!

She worked at Morganstern and G & H pants factories and retired in 1999 from Spotsylvania County Schools where she worked as a custodian and cafeteria worker on and off for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Roger "Pete" Madison; children Linda Madison (Gary), Kathy Sale (Kenny), Arthur Sale (Linda) and Penny James (Booker); grandchildren Jennifer, Jeanette (Tristan), Melinda (Lenny), JR (Janelle), George (Toni), Casey (James), Tracey (Steve), Arthur "Halfpint" (Jenna), Chucky, Cindy, Bubba, Travis, BJ (Tiffany) and Jesse; sisters Faye Carneal (Ed), Joyce Cooper and Shirley Maissoneuve (Frenchie); 34 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces; and 7 nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur A. Sale, Sr.; daughters Peggy "Donna" Sale and Baby Sale; grandson Brandon Blakly; brothers Roy Greene and Howard "Junior" Greene; half-sister Barbara Cooper; and half-brother James Pollard.
