Peggy Hawkins Powell, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday December 22, 2024, at her home in Browns Summit.
A memorial service will be held at Hope River Church in Gibsonville on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00am with Pastor Larry Pope officiating. The family will receive friends after the service during the reception at the church.
Peggy was born in Rockingham County to the late Bill and Pearl Hawkins. She began her working career at Jefferson Pilot and then went to work at Sears where she retired after 30 years of service. She also was involved with the starting of the Lady’s Auxiliary at the Northeast Fire Department, delivered Mobile Meals, and was very active in her church, Hope River (formerly Brown’s Wesleyan Church).
She loved to go to the beach and pick up seashells, especially at Harkers Island, Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout. She was also an avid flower gardener and was known for her green thumb. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother and was always willing to help anyone in need. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ott Hawkins; and sisters, Opal Johnson and Billie Underwood.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Powell; daughter, Traci Powell and sister, Carolyn Sue Murray. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
