Peggy J. Beatty Smith, age 81, of Jewett, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Born March 5, 1944, in Mt Oakie, Oklahoma, she was the oldest daughter of the late Fred Shelton Beatty, Sr. and Alberta Glenn Patterson Beatty. Peggy was a caretaker all her life. Whether it was caring for the residents at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston, privately caring for people in need in their homes, or taking kids and young adults into her home who needed a place to stay, she opened her heart to them all.
Peggy had attended Hanover Methodist Church. She enjoyed making ceramics, fishing, going to blues concerts and her numerous daily cups of coffee. But what she loved most was spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick "Pat" Smith on July 1, 2000, they were married on November 26, 1961. Also preceding her in death are three stillborn sons, an infant son and a brother Fred S. Beatty, Jr.
Surviving are her son Patrick "Pete" Smith, II, and his companion Christina Cain, of Cadiz, grandchildren Nazareth "Naz" Smith and his wife Judith Jett, of Jewett, Tylor Smith and his wife Summer, of Carrollton, Brandon Antonio and Kierra (Cody) Flaherty both of Canton, Malaysia (Kenny Spicer) Smith of Carrollton and Sirinity Smith of Mechanicstown, siblings John Beatty of Nevada and Jerry Beatty and Debbie (Les) Decker both of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Peggy's wishes, she will be cremated with no public services. The family asks that anyone wanting to make donations to help with her funeral expenses can send them directly to Koch Funeral Home, PO Box 193, Scio, Ohio 43988.
Heavenly Father, as we navigate the depth of grief, we ask for your healing touch. Mend the brokenness in our hearts and bring light to our darkness. Eternal rest grant her Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
