Penny Diane Mercer, 71, of Pendleton, Indiana, left us on February 2, 2025, surrounded by love at her home. Born to Bruce and Gloria (Fruit) Jackson on May 6, 1953, Penny was a proud graduate of Huntington North High School. Over the years, she dedicated her career to the payroll department of various trucking companies before transitioning to a role as a cashier at Dollar General in retirement.
Penny was a pillar in her community, actively involved in the Pendleton First United Methodist Church. There, she found joy and fulfillment in being part of a Bible study group and a women's missions group, sharing her love for others through faith and service. Known for her warmth and loving nature, Penny was famous for her big hugs and willingness to lend a hand. She had a passion for sewing and crocheting and loved creating and gifting beautiful blankets, prayer shawls, and baby blankets to those in need. Penny was also an avid canner, she enjoyed canning, gardening and baking.
Penny's family, especially her husband Rex Mercer, will cherish her memory and the love she brought into their lives. She is survived by Rex; siblings, Allen (Martha) Jackson, Dave (Brenda) Jackson, and Nick (Stacy) Jackson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and one uncle. She is also fondly remembered by her mother-in-law, Barbara Mercer and brothers and sisters-in-law Jim (Tyna) Mercer, Jeff (Roxanne) Mercer, and Lori (Dean) Stephenson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Bozell Funeral Homes, Lahm Chapel, 211 East State Street, Pendleton, Indiana 46064.
The celebration of Penny's life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, starting at 10:00am at the funeral home.
