Penny Pullum Obituary

Penny Anderson Pullum, wife of the late Bobby L. Pullum and daughter of the late Mayor James L. Anderson and Helen Virginia Anderson, died on December 11, 2025, at the age of 87.

A native of Camden, South Carolina, Mrs. Pullum graduated from Winthrop College with a B.A. in History in 1960 and later earned her M.A. in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1975. While in college, she spent a summer working on the outdoor drama The Lost Colony in Manteo, North Carolina, alongside William Ivey Long Sr. and his wife, Mary-an experience that sparked a lifelong love of the Outer Banks.

A devoted and much-loved educator, Mrs. Pullum taught history in both private and public schools throughout Kershaw County, impacting generations of Camden students. She taught history at Camden Junior High School in the early 1960s and later taught history in the high school at Joseph Kershaw Academy from 1969 to 1975, where the 1975 JKA Epaulet annual was dedicated to her in recognition of her influence and dedication. She continued her career with the Kershaw County Public School System, teaching history at Camden Middle School from 1977 until her retirement in 2003. In 1980, Camden Middle School students honored her by dedicating the school's first yearbook in many years to her.

In retirement, Mrs. Pullum remained very active in Camden, particularly in the Boogertown neighborhood. She was often seen riding her scooter around town with her dachshund and enjoyed traveling to Europe with her son.

She is survived by her son, Mr. Robert Anderson Pullum (Nebio Carlos) of San Francisco, California; her niece, Cindy Pullum Goodrich (Mike); her nephews and niece, Davis, Ben, and Megan Goodrich; and her sister-in-law, Cathy Pullum Amyette (Ray) of Camden, and numerous Anderson cousins.

Other than her parents and husband, Penny was predeceased by her brother, James L. Anderson, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church, 1520 Mill Street, Camden. Burial will follow at Quaker Cemetery. Reverend Pickett Wall will officiate. A celebration of Mrs. Pullum's life will directly follow the burial. Memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Humane Society, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020.

I came across this and wanted to leave a message of how Ms. Pullum impacted my life as my history teacher in the 80's. She was a teacher that taught with dedication for her students. I remember the book Animal Farm that she introduced to class. I gained knowledge by sitting in her classroom. Thanks Ms. Pullum for the years of teaching. Sherry W. Nance

Ms. Pullman taught me history at Camden Middle School. I often visited her at her home selling candy for school. She was a major influence and a god sent angel that helped me handle bullying. We first became friends whe. I accidentally wrote my name an example that wasn't supposed to do. She scolded me but in a gentle way that would surprise many students who knew her as very strict. Rest in heaven. You will be missed by many. And thank you for being influential in my life and others.

She will be long remembered. I remember her as my History teacher at Camden Jr High back in the early `60's and I'm sure a good many people do to. She is one teacher that remained in my memory all these years. Gods speed Penny. R.I.P.
