HIS BEGINNING: Percy Harris Sr. was one of eight children born to the late Ben and Amy Harris on April 20, 1930, in Safford, AL. He was reared by his mother after the untimely death of his father at an early age.
HIS LIFE: Percy was educated in the Dallas County School System. He later moved to Mobile, AL, seeking employment.
On January 21, 1950, Percy was united in holy matrimony to Ella Rea Patton. From their union, God blessed them with three children: Juanita, Percy Jr. and Barbara Ann. He confessed Christ at an early age. After moving to Mobile, he united with Aimwell Missionary Baptist Church and later with Greater Nazaree Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Harris was a very loving and dedicated husband of 70 years, a father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a devoted deacon at both Aimwell and Nazaree, a member of Aimwell's choir, Sunday school, and men's ministry. He was very well known for his skills in a multitude of areas. He was employed at National Gypsum Plant and Armstrong World Industries in the maintenance department for over 40 years. He was also an avid wrestling fan.
HIS TRANSITION: He departed this life and transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, December 9, 2024 at his home. Percy was preceded in death by his wife: Ella Rea Patton Harris; five siblings: Mae Willie Lashore, Geneva Harris, Jimmy Harris, James Huey and Louella Thrash.
HIS LEGACY: Percy leaves a legacy to his three loving children: Juanita (Calvin) Moore, Percy (Tyna) Harris Jr., and Barbara Ann Harris; three grandchildren: Dr. Janeen Moore, Phillip (Taylor) Harris and Paeton Harris; three great-grandchildren: Naomi Harris, Isaiah Harris and Audrey Harris; two sisters: Mattie Bell James and Annie
Bell Walker; one brother-in-law: Samuel (Pearl) Patton; one
sister-in-law: Lola (William) Gladden; one godson: Eric McIntosh; a dear friend, Edmond Gaines; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Owner JJ Nelson and staff of Nelson's Barnyard Buffet in Saraland, AL - Percy's favorite restaurant.
