WATERBURY – With heavy hearts, the family of Perfecta Perez, age 85, shares word of her peaceful passing on March 3, 2026, in the Vitas Hospice Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family, Perfecta fell asleep with the Lord and joined her beloved husband, Hector, who preceded her just a few short weeks ago.
Born on August 8, 1940, in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, Perfecta was the cherished daughter of the late Juan and Eugenia (Carmona) Simmons. At a young age, she moved with her family to the New York area before establishing her roots in Waterbury, where she dedicated her life to raising her family and nurturing her community. A proud graduate of Leavenworth High School, Perfecta held various occupations throughout her adult life, including positions at the former Timex Watch Company, Saint Mary's Hospital as a nurse's aide, and Airpax Manufacturing. She also served as a secretary for Rev John Blackall at Saint Cecelia’s Church, where she also taught CCD and was the religious education coordinator. Her heart, however, was always invested in her most meaningful role—as a devoted mother and wife.
Perfecta possessed a remarkable talent for baking and decorating beautiful cakes, and her creativity extended to sewing, reading, and gardening, and more recently, playing games and reading on her tablet. Whether she was shopping, enjoying movies, and taking photos and videos, her true joy came from hosting family gatherings during the holidays, where laughter and love would fill her home. As we remember Perfecta Perez, let us celebrate a woman whose warmth, love, and devotion enriched the lives of all who knew her. May her spirit continue to inspire us, finding solace in the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
Perfecta leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. She is survived by her son, Marco Perez; her daughter, Yvette Perry; her brother, John Simmons Jr. and his wife Ana; her sisters, Victoria Simons Carmona and Mercedes Rodriguez; as well as her cherished grandchildren—Gordon and Aisha Perry, Zayna, Marco Jr., Ashley, and Mason Perez—and five great-grandchildren, Naylah, Nya, Kendall, Azari, and Alaia. She is also remembered by her former son-in-law, Gordon Perry Sr., along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, and friends. Besides her husband, she is also predeceased by her brother, Domingo Simons and sisters Alberta and Isabel Simons.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Perez will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Todos Los Santos Parish, St Anne’s Church, 515 S. Main St, Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the Perez family on Monday evening from 5:00- to 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705.
