Perry Loyd Phillips passed away at the age of 71, on November 9, 2023 at his residence. He was born on March 6, 1952 to Robert (Bob) Phillips and Edra McGough Phillips. He was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School and was a UMWA Coal Miner for over 30 years. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July when he decided that would be the most fitting day to give his life to God and get Baptized on July 4, 2023. A visitation will be held Saturday November 11, 2023 at Bob Wilson Memorial Chapel, Carbon Hill, Alabama from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel. He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Edra Phillips. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Patsy Grace Phillips, daughters Kelly Clark (Joey), Cassie Tidwell (Levi), son Matthew (Kayla),grandchildren Joseph Clark, Jordain Clark, Colby Tidwell, Grayson Tidwell,Kaylee Vines, and McKenzie Phillips, Bonus daughters, Kayla Grace, (Frankie), Jessica Grace (Todd), bonus granddaughters, Molly Kate, Lanee, and Ellie Kay, brother Steve Phillips, sister Elizabeth Brown, and also his 3 favorite fur babies Ting, Lola, and Yodi, and other family and dear friends. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make donations to you local schools to the snack pantry in his honor. The family would like to thank Southeat Hospice and a very special thank you to his favorite nurse Rwanda Stringer.

While at Nix Elementary School with one teacher doing two grades, I shared my First grade with Perry Lloyd in Second grade, my Third grade with Perry Lloyd in Fourth grade, and my Fifth grade with Perry Lloyd in Sixth grade. We went on to the newly built Carbon Hill Jr. High School with Principal Mr. Stovall and Carbon Hill High School with Principal Mr. Davis. And we always rode the school bus to and from each of these school. At some point Perry Lloyd ended up being listed as a classmate of mine with the Class of 1971 where I graduated Class Valedictorian. Thus, in those 12 years of school, we shared many adventures and numerous whacko events.
Fifty years later, in 2021 during COVID, while planning our Class Reunion, I was assisting in sending out our Class invitation and Perry Lloyd was invited but never responded.
After he married Patsey GRACE, his family became neighbors and was especially kind to my mother Opal WATTS McGough and to my brother Dan. Perry always shared his son Matthew with Dan and Dan loved Matthew as if he was his own.
