Peta Gillian Cheifet, age 82, of Lansdale, PA, passed away on March 19, 2024.
Peta was born on August 9, 1941 to Ian Wyse Kennedy and Stephanie Anne-Marie Kennedy. She was born in Kasauli, India while her father was serving in the British Army. She spent most of her childhood in Henley-on-Thames in England with her parents and her younger sister Nicola.
In 1967, Peta met Stewart Cheifet while working together at CBS News in Paris. They were literally thrown together when Stewart was hit by a car on the Champs-Elysees. When he was unable to care for himself, Peta nursed him back to health. Peta eventually moved to California with Stewart and they were married in Las Vegas, NV. They travelled throughout the world, largely due to Stewart’s work in television production. They lived in the Samoan Islands, Hawaii, San Francisco, and Los Angeles before settling in Philadelphia.
Peta and Stewart went on to have two children, Stephanie and Jonathan.
Peta worked for more than two decades as an Administrative Assistant at Rolling Hill Hospital. In 2015, Peta retired and spent her time doing the things she loved – spending time with family, travelling with Stewart, riding her horses, walking her dogs, tending to her birds, and gardening. Peta’s true passion was riding horses, and she ran a local stable for over 30 years. She even entered a long-distance horse-riding competition in her 60s.
She is survived by Stewart, her sister Nicola, her children Stephanie and Jonathan, and her grandchildren Gussy, Josephine, Benjamin and Freya.
