Peter "Panagiotis" Asimakopoulos

Peter (Panagiotis) Asimakopoulos fell asleep in the Lord January 7, 2026. Beloved husband of Maria Gavaris. Loving father of Carnie (Lee) Aquila, Eliana Asimakopoulos (Faisal Uddin) and Nicole (Robert) Johnsen. Peter was the devoted son of the late Elias and Garifalia Asimakopoulos. Proud pappou of Ava Johnsen, Alyssa Uddin, Christopher Johnsen, Alexander Uddin, and Johnathan Aquila.

Dear brother of Kiki Karkabasis (the late Panagiotis), Maria Manutes (Nicholas) and the late Eleni and Kostandinos Makri, the late George and Tasia Asimakopoulos, the late Bessie and Nicholas Destounis. Loving son-in-law of the late Nicholas and Stavroula Gavaris. Dear brother-in-law of Georgia Gavaris, the late Panagiota Gavaris, and the late Polyzoes and Eleftheria Gavaris.

Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Peter was born and raised in Greece before moving to Canada where he began his journey shaped by courage, hard work, and love for family. He eventually made his home in Chicago, where he met his beloved wife, Maria, at a family gathering. Married for 54 years, they built a life filled with devotion, perseverance, and care for one another.

Peter worked tirelessly as a waiter and cook before fulfilling his dream of opening several restaurants. Cooking was both his profession and his joy, a way he expressed love and brought people together. He also found peace in gardening, tending to his plants with patience and pride.

Above all, Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family and took special pride and joy in his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. Peter's kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Peter was a long time member of St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Chicago.

Visitation Tuesday January 13, at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church Chicago, 2727 W. Winona from 9am to 10am. Funeral service to immediately follow.

Interment at Irving Park Cemetery, 7777 W. Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL.
