Jesse: Please call me when you have a moment. My number is 205-540-0557. I saw your childhood best friend today. Ben was at my next door neighbor´s house. I still want a copy of the picture of us together Friday before last.

I smiled and teared up reading uncle Peter´s obituary. Somehow I think I remember that apartment building in Englewood. What a big loss for the Branum´s. I bet Peter is putting on magic shows for Mur and Grandaddy everyday in heaven!
Much love,

I am Peter Branum's brother Steve. I was fortunate to be a part of his celebration of life yesterday in Decatur Alabama. It was an unbelievable service in so many ways. Great attendance to honor him, great stories from the past, powerful songs and prayers and so many connections from old and new friends and certainly family. We wouldn't change one thing about how things flowed. Then we went to the cemetery where he was going to be interred next to family. As an old friend, the pastor had so many incredibly encouraging words. The whole day was difficult but yet such a celebration. We love and miss Peter Branum enormously.

A beautiful obituary for a beautiful life. My connection to Peter dates from some point in the late 1990's when he worked at the Special Collections Dept. at Auburn University.
The obituary mentions Ray Charles and "What'd I Say." Peter and I got together over music and he kindly let me appear as a guest on his "Golden Oldies" radio show on WEGL - Auburn FM 91.1. (I'd had previous radio experience on other stations). Thanks to Peter's encouragement, I was able to join WEGL as one of a very few non-student disk jockeys and when Peter moved to host the Folk Music show, I took over hosting the "Golden Oldies" in May 1998 under the D.J. name Dr. Hepcat. (I'm still hosting that show today!).
Peter was a truly kind and fun individual. I'm also privileged to have known his lovely wife, Patti, who worked as a library employee for 31 years. I also had the privilege of knowing Sarah and Jesse. A fine family.
Yes, Peter has gone to be with the Lord. We all miss him but know that he has "gone home" as we all must someday. I look forward to seeing my old friend, Peter, on the other side when my time comes.

Here are a few pictures of Peter doing some of his favorite things. He loved to ride bikes, sing songs, scuba dive, and go on hikes.
