Publish in a newspaper

Peter Caggiano, 71, of Wallington, NJ, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 11, 2025.
He was born in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn on April 9th, 1954 as the youngest of 3 brothers and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. After several jobs as a bartender and working on cruise ships, he eventually found a career at PATH, where he started as a conductor and retired as a train dispatcher in 2014. During his time with PATH while working as a dispatcher at Hoboken he was instrumental in efforts to get trains and people clear of the World Trade Center on 9/11. He also proudly served as the treasurer of the PATH Federal Credit Union for decades, working alongside his fellow board of directors whom he considered family.
After getting married in 1984 to Catherine Russo, he moved out of New York in 1986 and settled down in Keyport, NJ where his only son, Justin, would be born in 1988. After 25 years there he bounced around New Jersey to Red Bank, Hazlet, Middletown, Matawan, and eventually settled in Wallington.
Pete was known to many as "Uncle Pete" or "Mayor Pete" because of his propensity to be known and loved by people literally everywhere he went, near or far. He was an avid wrestling fan and sports fan who rooted for the Yankees, Devils, and "unfortunately" the Jets. He was an excellent bowler and loved handicapping horse racing, usually with a nice glass of pinot noir. He also loved to cook and had a deep appreciation for Broadway and stand-up comedy. If you knew him he had an incredibly quick wit and unique sense of humor that spawned many creative phrases that are still quoted regularly by friends and family alike.
He is predeceased by his parents, Pat and Anne Caggiano (née Sincavitch); wife, Catherine; and brother, Robert.
He is survived by his son, Justin; brother, David; nephews, Robert and Christopher; niece, Christine; and girlfriend, Michele DeLeva, along with the entire DeLeva family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Peter's name to one of two charities near and dear to his heart; Children's Miracle Network Hospitals or The ALS Association.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 13, 2025 from 2-5 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home 115 Tindall Rd., Middletown. Cremation will be private.
