Back in 1970 through 1972, John and I were little league, teammates, first on Peggy`s bake shop, and then two years on Holtermann`s bakery. My father was the manager, and Mr.Carroll our coach. We won the championship all three years. I remember all the fungo bat ground balls Mr. Carroll would hit to me at shortstop, gradually hitting them harder and harder until I was confident I could catch anything he hit. I remember when I would pitch and losing my temper on the mound, Mr. Carroll, who was a giant to us kids, would come out and talk to me and somehow always calmed me down. My father and I still look at the old team pictures now and then, and have great memories of the players and Mr. Carroll.
My condolences to John and his family, but I´m glad you had so many years with Mr. Carroll. He was a great man.

I am so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. My father worked with Pete years ago at the Brooklyn Union Gas Company. Pete was always a very kind and gentle man. I will keep him in my prayers.

Mr Carroll ran the P S 8 night center in the 1960s and 70s. Everyone of us loved Pete. He kept us off the streets in the gym and out of trouble. He was there keeping the peace and was there to talk to. He would take money out of his own pocket on Friday nights to buy us some soda and chips. Often if a kid dident have the 3 bucks for the seasonal pass he would use his own money and pay it. I know cause I was one of those kids. We all called him Mr Carroll. He knew our names and looked out for us. Thank you Mr Carroll I hope theres a special place in heaven for you..R.I.P.

Sincere condolences to the family.

As a kid growing up in Oakwood there was never a mistake knowing where Mr Carroll lived. His home on the corner of Hylan Blvd & Guyon occupied the entire block but what was most memorable is the hedges in the side lawn facing Hylan where he took the time to have his name shaped into the top of those hedges CARROLL. They were there for years. A gentle giant of a man he was always at Farrell basketball games with his good friend Bill Dunn (another gentle giant). Always had a big smile and firm handshake every time I saw them while remembering to ask how my father was doing in Florida.
Rest in Peace
