Van Buren - Peter Roy Castonguay, 54, passed away on August 25, 2025, at a residential care facility in Westfield.

Born on May 17, 1971, in Van Buren, Maine, Peter was the son of Carmel Camille Castonguay and Lucille Margaret (Roy) Castonguay. He graduated from Van Buren District secondary school in 1989 and furthered his education at Washington County Technical College for welding and completed several firefighting courses with the Maine Vocational Technical Institution. Peter later went on to work in the healthcare industry for several years, serving as a CNA and PSA. Peter demonstrated his compassion and dedication to caring for others through the various careers he chose during his life.

Peter was an honorary member of the Van Buren Fire Department and a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Known for his willingness to help others and his genuine care for people, Peter was always ready to lend a hand. He especially loved his daughters and was exceedingly proud of his grandson, Isaac.

He cherished the time he spent helping his grandparents on the farm in Hamlin. Throughout the years, he and his brother Scott maintained a strong relationship, often working together and engaging in lengthy conversations reminiscing about the good times and many learning experiences they shared at the farm.

Peter was a devout Catholic and was a communicant of St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church.

Peter was predeceased by his father, Carmel Castonguay, in 2008.

He is survived by his brother, Scott A. Castonguay and his wife Cheryl; his mother, Lucille Castonguay; his daughters, Julie and Morgan Castonguay; and his grandson, Isaac Castonguay Morneault. Peter also leaves behind several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends whom he loved dearly.

Family and friends are invited to call 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM Monday, September 1, 2025, at the St. Bruno – Saint Remi Catholic Church, 174 Main St. Van Buren, ME 04785, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass at St. Bruno – Saint Remi Catholic Cemetery in Van Buren.
