Peter Andrew Cavanagh

71, of Scituate, Rhode Island, died peacefully on July 13, 2024, while vacationing with his family on Block Island. Son of the late Paul and Helena Cavanagh, Peter was the loving husband of Theresa (Derosier), who he met at the age of 15 and they were inseparable from then on, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this 4th of July. A graduate of Providence College, Peter was the Co-owner of Cavanagh Company where he guided the family business and automated the altar bread baking process. Known for his keen intellect, generous heart, comic wit and athletic prowess, Peter devoted his life to family, instilling values of honesty, trust, commitment, faith in God and caring for others. Peter delighted in gathering with his four children and thirteen grandchildren, saying, "Terry and I watch them grow and interact... they truly love each other... such a joy." He excelled in hockey and tennis, which he taught and coached, and enjoyed fishing, camping, chess, classical piano, art, painting, and rooting for the Patriots and Friars.
Peter loved with such depth and range that it felt like he took you into himself and embraced your whole being. He will be sadly missed.
Peter is survived by his wife, Theresa; his children and their spouses: Daniel Cavanagh, Andrew and Maura Cavanagh, Luke and Erin Cavanagh, Aimee and Joshua Downs; his grandchildren James, William and Paul Cavanagh, Julia, Ryan, Mallory and Jake Cavanagh, Connor and Emma Cavanagh, Jaicee, Jackson, Joiee and Juliee Downs; his siblings and their spouses: Denise and Chris Baxter, Brian and Kathy Cavanagh, Steven and Martha Cavanagh, Mark and Robin Cavanagh, Paula and William Charland, Jane Cavanagh, Claire and Steven Gilson; and his mother-in-law, Theresa Derosier.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday July 18, 2024 at 10am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Visitation and burial will be private.
