Peter Demitropoulos … Loving husband, father, grandfather
WESTFORD - Peter Demitropoulos, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lowell on December 9, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles P. Demitropoulos and Patricia (Baltas) Demitropoulos.
Peter raised his family in Westford, but his heart was always in Lowell—specifically, the Acre. His fondest childhood memories were of playing sports year-round on the Bartlett School playground and ducking into his grandfather’s Olympia Restaurant for a bowl of rice pudding after school. Many of his Greek-American friends came from that same one-square-acre neighborhood, and three-quarters of a century later they could still be found together, sharing coffee at various spots around Greater Lowell. Peter was as proud of his friends’ accomplishments as he was of his own family’s.
Peter had a strong competitive spirit and was a standout basketball player at both the high school and college levels. He enjoyed traveling the country on GOYA and Boys Club teams, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Later, through golf, he continued to compete and build friendships, while sharing his love of the game with his sons.
In his later years, Peter and his beloved wife, Patricia, enjoyed spending winters in Delray Beach, Florida, before Peter selflessly shifted his focus to his most important role—her devoted caregiver. His most cherished role, however, was that of “Papou” to Colin, Lucy, James, and Pete. His love for his grandchildren was unconditional, and at the hundreds of sporting events he attended, there was always one voice heard above all others—his.
Peter may have seen the world in black and white, but he lived a colorful life, filled with love and pride.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Ann (Malliaros) Demitropoulos; his sons, Jason (Kristen) of Stoneham and Dean (Megan) of Melrose; his grandchildren, Colin, Lucille, James and Peter; his brother, Timothy of Wells, Maine; and his brothers-in-law, Dean (Dianne) Malliaros of West Roxbury and Harold Malliaros of Lowell.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s name to Youth on Course at www.massgolf.org/donate
