Wiley Viverette Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home - Flint from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7, 2025.
Wiley Loney Viverette Jr., known lovingly as "Junior" by his siblings, peacefully passed away on Oct. 30, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on Aug. 22, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, Wiley lived a life full of purpose, adventure and love. Since 1999, he had made Brunswick his home.
Wiley proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he attended the University of Iowa, earning a degree in business. His professional career spanned 26 years with Kmart Corp., where he worked in management and lived in many places across the United States and the Virgin Islands - including Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, St. Croix, and Georgia.
In 1997, the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame inducted Wiley for his remarkable athletic accomplishments across multiple sports. Among his proudest achievements was winning the Michigan State Wrestling Championship in 1961.
After retiring from Kmart, Wiley embraced new passions with enthusiasm. He became a licensed real estate agent, learned Spanish and discovered his love for photography, art and craftsmanship - teaching himself to draw, frame his own photos and even work as a locksmith.
A man of strong faith, Wiley was a God-fearing Christian who was born and raised Baptist. He led his life with kindness, patience and humility. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he taught his daughters to fish, his grandsons to wrestle, and everyone around him the importance of love, family and listening with an open heart.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Clara Viverette; his daughter, Tracy Viverette Purty (Marcos);and two beloved grandsons, Myles and Bryce. He is also survived by his sister Wyvonne Holt. He was loved and leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Wiley was preceded in death by his daughter, Dedria Viverette; his parents, Wiley and Leatha Viverette; his brothers, Billy, Anvis and Willie Viverette.
Wiley will be remembered for his wisdom, humor, gentle spirit and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the lessons he shared.
The family will hold a private memorial service.

I was sad to here that Mr. Viverette passed away. He was my manager at Kmart. I was there already when he came. He was a great man. I used to like hearing his stories about Detroit. I met his beautiful wife once and he talked about his family. My condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to cousin Wiley´s entire family! I will always cherish many pleasant family conversations and memories. I recall visiting Wiley and his brother Bill
in Flint Michigan. I promised to bring them a meal, but the full- course dinner, including
German chocolate cake was delayed, because it was all homemade! They were pleasantly surprised when I arrived because they thought I was bringing sandwiches! I always smile when I recall the humorous moment with my cousins!
