Boonville- Peter J. DeVoe, 52, husband of Merica, passed away at his residence, after a short illness, while surrounded by the loving care of his family, on Friday, February 19, 2016. Peter was born in Rome, on June 10, 1963, a son of Ralph E. and Irene Goodhines DeVoe. A lifelong resident of Boonville, he graduated from Adirondack High School, with the Class of 1981; thereafter he furthered his education at SUNY Morrisville, majoring in Farm Management. In 1987, he established a dairy farm, on Pete's Lane, near Boonville, which he operated until 2002. In 2003, he purchased the DeVoe Family Homestead Farm, where he grew up, on West Leyden Road. Thereafter he was employed as a carpenter for Creekside Builders, Boonville, and later as a contractor for Time Warner Cable, Syracuse. Mr. DeVoe was currently employed as a custodian at Adirondack High School, Boonville. On August 1, 2015, Peter was united in marriage with Merica LaVeck, in Boonville. Peter had a lifelong interest in vintage 1960's & 70's, "Hot Rod" classic cars; he greatly enjoyed attending car shows, especially his annual trip with his family to the Adirondack National Car Show, at Lake George. He also enjoyed attending the car show at Carlisle, PA, a family tradition that he, his brother and his Dad began when Peter was a child. At home he spent most of his time fixing or breaking something in the garage with a circle of family and friends. He also enjoyed riding snowmobile and telling stories to make everyone laugh. In addition to his best friend and wife, Merica, Pete is survived by his greatest accomplishments, his children; Jacqueline DeVoe Fox (Ben), Samantha Hoffert (Casey), all of Boonville, Sierra LaVeck, Olivia DeVoe, and Ashlyn DeVoe, all at home; his siblings, Michael, Boonville, Dawne Olbrych and husband, David, Scotia, Patti DeVoe, and Sharon Cihocki, (William), all of Boonville, and one grandson, Deakin Hoffert, Boonville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to Pete, his wife's family, and many friends he also considered family. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph, in 1988, and Irene in 2011. His Funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Calling hours are Monday 1-4 & 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Adirondack Educational Foundation, C/O Adirondack Central School District Office, 110 Ford St. Boonville, NY 13309.
