Today I found a little holy card of divine mercy inside the book of Saint Faustina. Your name is printed on the back. The anointing of the sick that I received from you, before my diverticulitis surgery, miraculously saved my life. It was in December 2012 at the Stamford Hospital. Today my rosary of divine mercy is for you. Thank you I didn't even know you passed way, Sorry.

Grew up on Dora Street. Attended his 7 am mass at St. Benedict's & he was always an inspiration. Still can hear him sing How Great Thou Art. As a kid I went to a fair they had in their backyard & it was so much fun. I heard they made $18 & gave it to the church. Have fun in heaven Peter!

Dear Monsignor: This is Diane your 2nd cousin daughter of Mary Dora. I am so sorry I couldn't attend your services. I had an illness that caused terrific pain that kept me from paying my respects.
I have loved you ever since I knew we were family,
and felt fortunate to have you baptize both my daughters Olivia and Ava, as well as marry me.
We lost frequent touch the last 2 years for that I do
regret. I know you are in heaven with my mom, family and friends who have faithfully departed.
I wish you everlasting life with Jesus our Lord and redeemer. Miss you and forever grateful, until we
meet again.

Love, Diane Heineken (Gasiewski)

So sorry for the loss of Msg.Dora. As a nurse at Stamford Hospital I was always impressed by his constant quiet way of comforting visits to my patients, When my husband was very sick Father brought him peace and distraction from his pain, as a grieving widow he did the same for me. His words "life is short and eternity is so long, you will be together again for eternity" are always in my mind and heart. He will be missed and always loved

June 26, 2017

Thank you for all that you did, Monsignor Dora. You will be greatly missed.
Sending lots of love to his family.

My sincere condolences and prayers to the Dora families.
Father Dora was such a joy, inspiration and unique individual who touched all who knew and met him.
His sermons were special, especially when geared towards the children attending Mass at St Benedict. I enjoyed the Blessing of the Animals celebration and would bring my 2 cats in their carriers for Father Dora to bless. It was such a fantastic event at St Benedict with all the parishioners pets getting along in harmony.Thank you Father Dora for your understanding and comforting words during my time of need. You are indeed surrounded by the angels and with God.
I have and will always remember you.
Peace!

My sincerest sympathy to the special Dora family - - -
I'm an old, old Cove native, but I've lived in Florida for more than 50 years. But my special sister Lydia Gallo has always lived in Stamford, until her passing last Dec. and she always kept me posted about the Dora family.
Mary Rose, for years, all year long, I've enjoyed the palm trees that you bought with Lydia - they're part of the Fontanni nativity set, so they're part of our manger scene at Christmas time.
2 recent short stories about "Peter":
One day when Lydia was very sick in the hospital, her Lutheran Slovak pastor was with her - and - in walks "Peter", a Catholic Slovak. What a special visit it was she told me with both of them there.
And - when we were in church for her service, her pastor told me that "Peter" would be there, sitting in the last pew. On the way out Pastor was walking first, then me, crying, and our 2 brothers. I saw "Peter" and stopped and he gave me a hug. I told him I felt disrespectful calling him "Peter" but he said it was OK, and made me laugh instead of cry. How special he was. How special your whole family is. I just wish we had known each other for all these years.
My sincerest sympathy to both of you losing your special brother.

My sincere condolences to the family. I met Msgr. as a boy while he was at Christ the King in Trumbull. He quickly became a family friend. He kept his eye on me during my college years by writing me wonderful letters full of advice and humor. Many years later we were honored to have him perform our wedding. He was someone who the conversation picked up where it left off even though you hadn't seen each other in some time. He was truly one of the good ones and I am a better person for knowing him.

Please take comfort in knowing he was loved and appreciated.

June 10, 2017

To Mary Rose, Sister Patricia and family,
It is with great sorrow that Gay and I have learned of the death of Monsignor Peter.
I knew him, with my brother Jack, as a student and altarboy as one of "The kids of St. Mary's". His referential and spiritual demeanor was very evident even in those youthful days. Very recently our lives converged again with the several hospitalizations of our daughter Kimberly. She had been fighting a courageous but losing battle with brain cancer. In her final month long hospitalization Monsignor visited her daily, kept her company, made her laugh and through his many prayers and blessings brought her the needed spiritual comfort and peace. He helped her as no one else could, to end her 10 year battle with cancer.
We will never forget his loving care and are so grateful God allowed us to have him with us. As John Roman stated: "The Cove has lost it's Saint". So have we all. May he rest in blessed peace.

I was truly sadden to learn of Msgr. Peter's passing. As a former member of St. Benedict's parish family and Cove resident as well as being a distant cousin through marriage, I came to know Peter as a truly wonderful priest. He said my parent's funeral masses in 1987 (I wish I could have been at his yesterday but just learned of it this morning) and was always there for spiritual guidance when my mother needed him.
God bless your family and rest with the angels Fr. Peter.

It is difficult to convey my sadness in words as I grieve the loss of my dear friend Monsignor Dora. He was there for me each and every time I needed a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold. I believe God gives us angels on this earth to ease the journey and he was (and always will be) mine. I have lost a friend here on earth and gained a friend in Heaven. Monsignor, rest in peace in the arms of the angels and watch over us as you always have. Miss you... Dolores

My deepest sympathies to the Dora family. I am sure all of your ancestors and his many friends greeted him upon his arrival to heaven. What a beautiful sweet loving and gentle soul he was on this earth and will continue to be in heaven.

I will never forget all the many visits he made to the hospital and rehab centers to visit and pray with both of my parents in their last days as well as the many visits he made to our house to give them Holy Communion. I will never forget all the wonderful talks my parents and I had with him. Also, I will never forget his graciousness to perform both of my parents funerals. Thank you for being there for all of us. You will be greatly missed here on earth but you are our guardian angel now. God bless your soul! XOXO

This is truly such a deep shock and tremendous loss. I've known Msgr. Peter for a long time going back to my days at Norte Dame Girls High School as our spiritual director to our pastor at Holy Name of Jesus in Stratford CT. He was so beloved by all filled with compassion and kindness. He was wonderful to I and my family and provided such support to me when I lost my first husband. And then he officiated at my second marriage at St. Teresa's church. After his departure we lost touch but he was always in my thoughts and prayers. I missed you and now more than ever. You were an inspiration and a wonderful servant of God. Rest In Peace Dear Monsignor. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Our condolences to the family.

My best friend, Marge and I have been blessed for twenty-seven years to have shared a very special close relationship with our wonderful Monsignor Peter. He was our treasure, our knight in shining armor, always there when you needed him. He loved both of our Mothers and was there for both of them until the end of their lives. He chose us to chair the Sausage and Pepper Booth at Holy Name of Jesus Church Fair and we had so much fun doing the prep work and all that it entailed on the day of the fair. Our team was delighted with his down to earth involvement in our success. He would have been chopping up those peppers and onions if we let him. That was Monsignor Peter, truly a priest of the people, he was one of us and we all loved him so very much.

We were together through thick and thin. He never lost touch and I can still hear his voice telling me not to give up when I was diagnosed with cancer. He kept calling and telling me that he and all the priests at Queen of Clergy had me in their prayers. Well how could I lose with a team like that. He always told me that I should pray for him too and that is exactly what I did. I know that he took the express route up to those pearly gates and that they indeed opened wide. He was our Saint Peter here on earth and I know that he is now our special angel watching over us. Rest in Peace, Monsignor Peter, you have our undying love and gratitude.

Death is the heartache no one can heal,
Memories are keepsakes no one can steal.
Beautiful memories are all we have left,
Of the ones we loved and will never forget.
Softly the leaves of memory fall,
Gently we gather and cherish them all.
Planted deep in memory's garden
And watered daily with tears,
Memory has a magical way
Of keeping loved ones near.

To the family of Msgr. Dora,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Msgr. Dora. He was such a comfort to my father during various hospitalizations at Stamford Hospital. One such occasion, Msgr came in and said "Bob, you're here again?" To which my father replied... "Msgr. don't you know this is my time share?" My father passed away in 2012 but I will always remember the kindness Msgr. Dora expressed during his visits with my Dad. Wishing you all much peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Msgr. Dora's Family and Friends, I reacted with great sadness to the news of Peter's passing. He not only was my parish priest at St. Benedict Church but also a wonderful neighbor in the Cove section of Stamford. He officiated at my father's burial Mass and during the homily he reflected that yet another "Cove boy" was welcomed with open arms when he arrived in Heaven.
Thank you for your devotion to all the parishioners you counted
among your flock. You ministered to all of us long and well. We were blessed to be part of your congregation.
I know the gates of Heaven were lined with many residents of your neighborhood welcoming home their "Cove boy".
May you rest in peace. Sincerely,

My condolences to the family. I will always hold a memory of Monsignor Dora with a kindly smile and a little twinkle in his eye. He was a humble yet so accomplished man of great faith and a true shepherd of the way.

Dear Dora family,
It was so sad to read that Peter has passed away. What a beautiful obituary! He led such a remarkable life. We were blessed to meet Monsignor about two years ago. What a wonderful, sweet, kind, knowledgeable man. I too grew up in the Cove and also attended St. Mary's and SHS (a few years later than Monsignor). He and I would reminisce about life in the Cove during the 50's and 60's. He made sure we would go street by street and he knew at least one family on each street. Peter has touched so many lives. He will be missed by many. Monsignor was proud of his Irish roots and I know there is an Irish party going on in Heaven welcoming him home. Rest in peace Monsignor; you've earned it!

My deepest sympathies to the Dora family. My husband and I met Peter at Trip's Restaurant about two years ago. We knew him as Peter and didn't know that he was a priest, let alone a Monsignor six months later. When I found out he was a Msgr. I immediately asked him, what would you like me to call you should I call you Father, should I call you Msgr. and his answer was Rita my name is Peter, I want you to call me Peter.

On September 27, 2017 my husband had a medical episode and was in the hospital and rehab center and then back to the hospital for over 10 weeks. Peter came every day when he was at Stamford Hospital and sat with me. I could never have gotten through this ordeal without him. He just was the kindest, sweetest person in the world, always putting everyone before himself. Unfortunately my husband passed away November 21 and it was an honor that Monsignor Dora did my husband's funeral for me and my family. My grandchildren especially my oldest granddaughter Lily (10) is saddened by monsignors death. My entire family just loved him.

When he passed away, he went straight to heaven he was truly an angel put on this earth and I personally will truly, truly, truly miss this wonderful man. I loved him, Monsignor Dora and as I knew him Peter. Rest In Peace, I will miss you.
