Peter B. Gemma, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the beloved son of the late Peter and Jane St. Amand Gemma.
Peter's passion for politics and public service defined much of his life. A former staff member under President Ronald Reagan and a Kentucky Colonel, he continued to contribute to the political landscape by writing numerous articles for publications across the United States and serving as an editor for various outlets. His curiosity and love for history fueled both his writing and his life. In recent years, Peter channeled his compassion into his work as a support specialist, assisting individuals with brain injuries.
Peter was a man of diverse interests, enjoying many styles of music, with a special love for funk, soul, and blues - and anything James Brown. Known as a "walking encyclopedia," his passion for learning, researching history, and a lifetime of adventurous travels around the world helped expand his vast knowledge. He loved to showcase his expertise while playing trivia from time to time. He also had a fondness for savoring a good craft beer and occasionally indulging in a sniff of bourbon. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devout and active member of Bethesda Tabernacle in Lexington, Kentucky.
He is survived by his children, Peter (Victoria) Gemma III, Adrienne (Shaun) Maus, and Allyson Hope Gemma; his brother, John (Patricia) Gemma; grandchildren, Sabali, Scarlette, Shiloh, and Alijah Maus; and his life partner, Dylan Anderson. Peter was a devoted grandfather, taking pride in participating in the homeschooling of his grandchildren. Peter's legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Bethesda Tabernacle, 124 E. Tiverton Way, Lexington, KY 40517. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bethesda Tabernacle.
