Gibbons, Peter J., 69, of Stony Brook, NY, passed away on April 11, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Adele for 39 years, loving father of Matthew (Eve), and cherished grandfather to Mollie and Luke. Peter was a retired educator, District Director of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, past president of NYS Council of Music Educators (Nassau County), and a musician.
Reposing will take place on April 15, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Moloney's Hauppauge Funeral Home, located at 840 Wheeler Road, Hauppauge, NY. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday April 16 at 9:45 am at St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Hauppauge, NY. Inurnment will be on April 17 at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.

Peter Gibbons was an inspiration to those who were lucky enough to have known him. A lover of music and the arts, he dedicated himself to improving the arts programs of Island Trees, Garden City and New Hyde Park. In 2011, he was recognized by Nassau County’s Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for his commitment to public education. His impact was felt by every student who went through the Island Trees arts programs, played in his bands at Garden City and New Hyde Park, or took lessons from him at Kellenberg HS. He was an active participant in the communities, well beyond the duties of his job descriptions.

In his personal life, Peter was a proud family man, thoughtful friend, avid sports fan and history buff. He deeply loved his wife, son, daughter-in-law and his grandchildren. No distance was too far to travel for attending even the smallest of social occasions. Those who loved him will remember his wit, wisdom and generosity.

He held himself to a high standard, always seeking to be the best version of himself, a quest in which he was ultimately successful. He will be missed by us all and we invite you to celebrate his life with us.
