A Funeral Service for Peter Holt Hammond will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 2 pm at the Schaudt Funeral Service & Cremation Care, Tulsa, OK. Remembrances may be left online at http://www.schauftfuneralservice.com.
Peter Holt Hammond was born on September 9, 1952, in Miles City, Montana, to Margie Kathleen Tippit Hammond and Leigh (Bud) Howard Hammond, Jr., and departed to be face to face with the Lord on June 20, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Bud Hammond.
Peter is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Jacquelyn Nixon Hammond, and their daughters: Katherine Hammond Paul and husband JT, and Eugenia Hammond Pulliam and husband Mike; seven grandchildren; and his brothers: Rusty and his wife Linda, and Brook and his wife Sheri.
He was a 1970 graduate of Oklahoma Military Academy, Claremore, Oklahoma; studied mechanical engineering at Oklahoma Military Academy Junior College; was a 1977 graduate of Ocean Core Commercial Diving School; and studied structural welding at Coastal Welding School. As a welder and a qualified machinist, Peter was experienced in preparing and rebuilding gasoline and diesel engines. He was an excellent swimmer and attained both NAUI and PADI Diving Certifications. He had extensive training in medical emergencies.
Peter served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 through 1973 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Boatswains Mate 3rd Class. During his time in the Navy, he served aboard the U.S.S. William C. Lawe, DD763, stationed in Jackson, Florida. He traveled to 25 foreign countries, including both polar caps. He saw action in Vietnam for 18 months.
Following his military service, he was a deep sea diver repairing underwater structures in Alaska. Then he moved to warmer climates, trading in his diving equipment for construction tools to build houses in Houston, TX, where he met Jacquelyn, the love of his life. After their marriage, they moved to Perryton, TX, where he worked as a certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanic, responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the airframe and engine systems of aircraft to ensure they met safety standards.
In 1983, Peter and Jacquelyn moved to Cookson, OK, where their daughters where born. They lived in the Lake Tenkiller area where Peter worked and repaired boats and recreational vehicles and maintained the water system for the Snake Creek Cove residential area. In 2023, they moved to Skiatook where Peter enjoyed working on their farm and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren: Piper, Madilynn, Alexandra, Cooper, Aubrey, Weston, and Emily.
