Publish in a newspaper

Peter A. Maher, 82, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 in UMass Memorial Hospital in Marlborough surrounded by his loving family.

Peter was born in Boston, MA, the son of the late Alexander and Irene (Place) Maher.

He was a dedicated Construction Project Manager for over 45 years; most recently for Linbeck Co., retiring in 2008.

Peter is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol (Zacharias) Maher of Marlborough; 7 children, Gary Maher and his wife Christina of CT, Melissa Maher and her husband David Walper of MD, Amy Maher and her husband Kevin Jones of MA, Michael Bilinsky and his wife Kelly of Westborough, Elizabeth Lins of Douglas, Cathy Sargent and her husband Matt of Douglas, Jennifer Lyford of Auburn; 8 grandchildren, Carleigh, Harrison, Jacob, Gunnar, Zachary, Annie-Elizabeth, Charlotte and Dana, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Richard Maher and his wife Gerry, 2 sisters, Marylou McCarthy and her husband Jack, Janice Jenkins and her husband Bill, and his son-in-law Pete Lyford.

Peter was a lifelong music lover; played several instruments, particularly his beloved Banjo for many years with the Stone Street Strummers, the Good Tymes Banjo band, and as a soloist, sharing his love of music with those around him.

His creativity touched every part of his life, from woodworking projects lovingly made for his family, to the countless memories he captured as an avid and prolific photographer, especially of his beloved grandchildren, who were his greatest joy. Peter's legacy lives on in the memory of his lifelong unflinching humor, the music he made, and the love he gave so freely.

Heartfelt gratitude to the ICU nurses at UMass Memorial Hospital in Marlborough who supported Peter and his family with such warmth and compassion in his last moments.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, from 5-7 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.

A Funeral will follow on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, at 11 am in the St Matthias Catholic Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA.
