Peter G. Medonis Jr.

Peter G. Medonis, Jr., born March 3, 1949, passed away on January 17, 2026, after several months battling health challenges and severe infections.

He was born in Detroit, and grew up in Birmingham, graduating from Seaholm High School in 1967. He briefly attended Western Michigan University and Wayne State University and then went to work full time while pursuing a degree in Human Resources Development at Oakland University. He volunteered for several years at Common Ground, and as a volunteer fire fighter in Birmingham.

In 1978, after receiving his degree from Oakland University, Peter moved to New York City to pursue graduate studies in psychology and counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University, and during that time worked as security manager at International House, a graduate student residence. He ultimately earned a Doctor of Education degree, and spent his professional career employed by the Veterans Administration in the Hudson Valley as a substance abuse counselor, helping those who served.

He remained in New York after retirement, but in 2022, facing some health challenges, decided to move back to Michigan to be closer to family, extended family, and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter G. Medonis and Roberta J. Medonis, and is survived by his brother, Doug Medonis, and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held for Peter on Saturday, January 31, 1pm, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson. Friends may begin visiting at 12 noon.
