Peter G. Puhak

CANANDAIGUA - Peter G. Puhak, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Light Hill in Canandaigua. He is sure to have gone into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ. Peter is survived by four loving daughters, Lydia J. Puhak (Scott Fortlage), Pamela P. (Robert) Alden, Cynthia L. (Randy) Ortiz, and Stephanie Cleere; four grandchildren, Jules Fortlage, Camille Sisto, Shayne Ortiz and Adam Ortiz; cherished siblings, Bettyanne Westover, Billy (Jo) Puhak, Glen Puhak and Diane (Joe) Yoder; beloved nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha A. Puhak.

Peter was born and raised in West Hazleton, PA and was a graduate of West Hazelton High School, class of 1955. He then went on to earn a degree from Williamsport Tech in Williamsport, PA and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. Peter dedicated 30 years working in the engineering field, culminating with 22 U.S. patents while developing color picture tubes for Philips Electronics. He expanded his career to attend the Methodist Theological School in Ohio and completed the studies for Diaconal Ministry, becoming certified in Christian Education. Peter was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister in 1999. He served as pastor in two United Methodist churches in Canandaigua for 10 years. In his leisure time and during retirement, Peter enjoyed camping, painting, gardening and woodworking. He will be remembered as a loving father, trusted friend, beloved brother, active member of his church and cherished member of the community.

His memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced in the Spring. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Light Hill (comfort care home), 5160 Parrish St., Ext., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
