a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 8, 1954, in Hartford, CT, Peter lived a life rich with joy, dedication, and love.
Peter devoted many years of his career to Loctite, now part of Henkel, where he led the emergency response team. His commitment to his work shone through as he was recognized as the Most Valuable Member for ten consecutive years, a testament to his leadership and unwavering dedication to safety and teamwork.
Known for his warm personality, Peter had a unique way of making those around him feel appreciated and loved. He had a fond habit of expressing affection by always saying "I love you" when parting ways and was renowned among friends and family as a big hugger, embodying warmth and kindness in every interaction.
Outside of work, Peter had a variety of interests that brought him great joy. He enjoyed lifting weights, maintaining the gun show. A huge Beatles fan, he found joy in their music that resonated deeply with his spirit. He would often spend tranquil moments sitting on the Narragansett Sea Wall and visiting Camp Cronin, where he embraced the beauty of nature and cherished memories.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia L. (Palmer) Rakus, with whom he shared forty-six wonderful years of marriage; his son, Peter J. Rakus, III; his sister, Barbara Chesky; his best buddy, Robert Cecilio; and the family’s cherished German Shepherd, Sophia.He was predeceased by his parents, Peter J., Sr. and Mary (Edwards) Rakus; his daughter, Ashley Rakus; his sisters, Agnes LaFlamme; and his brother, Joseph Rakus.
Peter J. Rakus, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship, deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
