With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Peter John Sando Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and beloved friend. He was the husband of Devona Sando, son of the late Elmer and Minnie Sando, and brother to the late Allen Persicke and Andrew Sando, as well as Diane (Al) Morris.
Born on October 27, 1959, in Watervliet, Michigan, Pete spent his childhood camping with his family, creating memories that sparked his lifelong love for the outdoors. In his late 20s, he moved to Petoskey, where he built a life filled with family, laughter, and his greatest passions. In the 2000s, he relocated to Florida, but his heart always remained tied to Michigan.
Fishing was his greatest joy, and he spent countless hours at the Mill Pond near the "farmhouse" in Petoskey, casting his line and finding peace in the water. When he moved to Florida, he continued fishing and also discovered a new passion—making bracelets. He and Devona spent their weekends traveling to markets, sharing his handcrafted creations with others.
He had a deep love of sports, especially football and golf. He played football in high school at Michigan Lutheran High School and carried that passion throughout his life. He also loved to play golf and spent many hours on the course over the years. In his later years, he enjoyed watching both sports, always cheering on his favorite teams and players.
He was a lover of animals, especially his furry companions who crossed the rainbow bridge before him—Riley, Bourbon, and Rascals. He also loved being in the sun and spent countless hours by the pool, a simple joy he shared with his mom and continued to cherish throughout his life.
A proud and caring father to Faith, Kristen, and PJ (Amber), he was also a loving stepfather to Brianna, Mary, Trevor, and Jeremy. He was surrounded by love in his final days, with PJ by his side in Florida, and thanks to video chat, Faith and Kristen were able to be with him virtually as he took his last breath. A devoted grandfather to Kyrsee, Tommy, Owen, Abby, and Matty, as well as step-grandfather to Malia, he was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Bryana, in just a week.
While our hearts ache in his absence, we take comfort in knowing he has gone to be with his Lord and Savior, reunited with those who left too soon. His kindness, passion for life, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered.
A celebration of life will be held in Michigan this spring or summer.
