Peter W. Shaeffer, 79, of Gambrills, passed away on March 2, 2026. Passed away in his home with his wife by his side. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 8, 1946. Devoted husband of 56 years to Carolyn E. Shaeffer; beloved father of Bradley A. Shaeffer (wife Christine); loving grandfather of Peyton E. Shaeffer, Braeden W. Shaeffer and Jonathan D. Volpe Jr.; cherished uncle of Eric J. Askew (wife Autumn) Jason E. Askew, Jay Shaeffer, Sean Shaeffer, and Michael Shaeffer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Terri E. Askew and partner Steve A. Bartimo.
Peter attended Wentworth Military Academy before proudly serving his country as a military intelligence officer, specializing in counterintelligence. Throughout his distinguished career, he received numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal.
Following his military service, he continued to protect his country as a civilian in the same field at Fort George G. Meade for more than 20 years. In recognition of his dedicated civilian service, he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal by the Department of the Army.
His life was defined by love, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear to include family, friends and neighbors who became dear friends.
The family will welcome friends on Monday, March 9th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for visitation. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed, please follow the link below.

A gathering of food and fellowship will follow the service, located at The Hideaway, 1439 Odenton Rd., Odenton, MD 21113. The family hopes you will be able to attend.
